CITES protected chelonians in the markets
Cuora galbinifrons - Flowerback/Indochinese box turtle
50 RMB ($6 US) per kilogram
China, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Viet NamCITES II
The predominant Flowerback box turtle "subspecies" available in the various markets was the C. galbinifrons galbinfrons. While there were a few Cuora galbinifrons picturata and a dozen or so Cuora galbinifrons bourreti, the so-called galb galbs made up the vast majority of the hundreds to thousands of this species that were available. On palpation, many of the adult females of all subspecies had fully developed ova (late Spring, 2002).
Pictured below are several crates of predominantly Cuora galbinifrons galbinifrons

Two adult bourreti are pictured below with either another bourreti or a picturata visible on it's side in the back left of the photo.

Pictured below are several galb galbs in the pet market in Chengdu. While two of the animals have the more typical galb galb pattern, two of these animals (back left and front middle) are what are often called "tomatoes", an orange phase galb galb.
