Mammalian species available in the markets
Prionailurus bengalensis - Bengal Leopard cat
Depending on the subspecies, this species is listed as either CITES I or CITES II. Assuming the various cats we saw were caught within China, the CITES listings are not applicable, as CITES regulations only pertain to international trade.
There were four leopard cats in the Guangzhou Chao Tou market. All appeared to be freshly wild caught. While found throughout Asia, due to the surrounding mammalian wildlife, these likely came from central China.
