Macroclemys temminckii - Alligator snapping turtle
100 RMB ($12 US) for a 2 - 3 inch specimen
United States
A variety of American species can be found in the Asian markets. Prices in general for the American species are much much higher than their Asian counterparts. For example, some captive bred American Map turtles (Graptemys) were running about 600 RMB ($150 US) which could also get you a small Burmese star tortoise or a couple of Impressed tortoises.
The picture below was taken in the Chengdu pet market in early 2002. This tank held everything from a young alligator snapper to a Reeve's to a red eared slider to a floating galbie and elongated tortoise.
