Principle Animal Markets in China
Beijing Bird Market. This market has moved several times in the last decade. It includes a wide variety of birds, mammals, and reptiles available in a series of stalls and streets around a central square. Species noted during a spring visit in 2002 included hundreds upon hundreds of captive hatched, hand reared mynahs along with multitudes of other avian fauna to a few exotic mammals including Siberian chipmunks, guinea pigs, and hedgehogs. Chelonian wildlife included a few black breasted leaf turtles, a few captive bred Chinese stripe-necked turtles, and multitudes upon multitudes of varying sized red eared sliders. A number of lizards and amphibians were also present.
